crazy tahoe adventure 2!

Rounded up two cars worth of people: me, Kim, Halley, Kenny, Maelin, Lou, Jerry, Alice, Thanh ...[hopefully I spelled all their names right] and wandered off to Tahoe for the warmest snowboarding conditions ever. =P

Prior to getting to the resort, I was awesome and lost my wallet cuz I stopped to get gas in Meyers and put my wallet on the rear bumper... You already know where this is going ;).  Then sadly I called to cancel cards and continued onwards.

On Saturday, went down bunny slopes for a bit with Kim, Halley, Maelin, Alice, Thanh a bit then wandered off with Kenny, Jerry, and Lou. Also met up with a coworker Frank and his friend Mikey later joined us. That was pretty fun though they kept me going faster than I really wanted since I like going slow, slow like a slug!  We went to the backside and one run off of it was really nice but the other one was pretty icy and mogully.

Another adventure on the way back from main side to lifts 7 and 9 which was where we were parked:

We went up lift 6 and came down a pretty bumpy path. We kept trying to look for the fork left so we could cut across. Soon, we lost Kenny and it was just Jerry Lou and me continuing down. Then we get to what looks like a dead end and there's orange rope and a nifty sign that says look a cliff!  Well not exactly that, but that's what it meant anyways. And we were like hmmmmmm. Since Jerry was farther down, we sent him to look left to see if there was a path that connected back to a run.  He thought something was viable so Lou and I inched down and cut across it to be on the steepest most mogul-y icy stuff ever. We pretty much sat down and slide down for MUCH of it. haha. yes, eventually we showed up just a little late but fun times.

Sunday was super duper hot. I just ended up taking it pretty easy and chilling tho I'm sad I missed seeing the people going down in full bikini tops and bottoms. sad.  Then my car ended up eating dinner in Berkeley at Zacharys. Yayness. =)

i hate surveys

Fine.. here Jen =P  Now are you happy?

Each player of this game starts off with ten weird embarassing? things or habits or little known facts about me:

1. My high school friends call me skuldy and that's where most of my online handles [skuldyie] comes from. I think initially Kim penned the name after the goddess Skuld in Ah My Goddess! because she was really short and ran around whacking things with a hammer. Go figure why she decided to give me that nickname and why it caught on.

2. For all my complaining about doing stuff and despite all my laziness, I am always somewhat competitive. I will always try to beat my sad running times despite the fact that they're so sad.

3. I don't understand how people can't do something if they decide that they do actually want to do it. Running a marathon, biking from SF to LA. You can totally get there from a base of no training if you want to put in the effort. Don't just complain.

4. I used to have an automatic kinda spazzy reaction to when people would touch me, I would just all sorts of spaz and hit them hard. So thus my high school friends learned not to do crazy things like tap me on the shoulder and such.

5. There's a great dichotomy between how I come off in person and how I come off online. I don't notice it so much [obviously since I can't assess myself in both cases], but people have brought it up before when I met up with them irl if I had only known them online before.

6. I think nothing of meeting people off the internets. My friends are my friends whether I know them irl or not. Of course this doesn't mean I'm gonna be stupid and arrange to meet them in a shady alley in the middle of the night.

7. I use to play a MUD like a mofo, crazy obsessive amount of hours into playing it.

8. I have a hard time dealing with how I feel about things so I'll tend to gloss over everything and continue onwards ignoring just about everything. I like my blinders really I do.

9. I am actually much less confident/upbeat than how I apparently appear to people cuz for some reason people seem to think I know what I'm doing all the time?!?!

10. I totally want to dress up for Halloween next year, but what as?!?

crazy tahoe adventure

This post is for Jen who claims I don't post enough or at all really [just attribute this to my laziness].  Sometime back, I took a random Friday off work and went up to Tahoe with Valerie and Bryon. We decided we were gonna snowboard at Kirkwood and Sierra and stay at South Lake Tahoe. We stayed at Ambassador Motor Lodge which was actually quite nice with 2 queen beds in a fairly spacious room. Only downside was no hairdryer. It was very adventurous really due to my sadness.

Beginning of trip:
I make us turn back since I left lift tickets on kitchen table.
With this detour we decided to go buy some pastries for breakfast haha.
Then again we are on the way to Kirkwood!
Then it's putting on chains time huzzah!  Tho now we do this pretty quickly.
Then, on the turn into Kirkwood I took it too fast and skidded out into a snowbank.
Though, this one guy nicely suggesting digging ourselves out with snowboards / moving car back and forth until we got out --> so thus we proceeded to do this.
Finally, we are at kirkwood!
The snow was awesome, deep and powdery. Sometimes a little too powdery for me but pretty darn awesome snow.
Then we make our way to South Lake Tahoe and proceed to crash and sleep.

Day 2!
We go to Sierra where the runs were surprisingly still nice. A very fun day of snowboarding ensued and I hung around with Valerie and Bryon a bit then went off on my own. Eventually, we finished and went to Chevys and then back to the hotel. At this point, it was lightly snowing.  In hindsight we probably should have just left then and not stayed the night...

Day 3 aka evil long trip day!:
We wake up, look out the window and are like OH CRAP! It is snowing BUCKETS AND BUCKETS and the sky is still all grey. We turn on the tv to find out what weather conditions were and there is no sign of snow stopping till night so we decided we needed to try to get out anyways. Have to go unbury my car from the snow and put chains on even though we were in South Lake Tahoe.

Attempt 1:
We make a valiant effort to get out along Pioneer Trail. Alas, we find out 50 was closed at Meyers due to avalanche safety stuff. We crawl along for a while on Pioneer Trail until we decided to turn back and hang out at starbucks. We hang out for a bit and then we head out once again when we found out 50 was reopened.

Attempt 2:
It takes us 2 hours to go the 8 miles on Pioneer Trail since the stoplight at Pioneer Trail/50 intersection was reduced to a stop sign. Then, as we crawl through the windy pass on 50 on way to Sierra, I actually was going slower than the snowplow. =(  I was going 10-15 mph and was still slightly losing traction. Crappy scary stuff that.  Eventually, we make our way out and continue slowly along.  As the night goes on, we hit all sorts of weather. It went from snow to hail to fog to rain. We had all sorts of fun. Finally, we get back to the bay area around 10 and back home by 11 pm.  Keep in mind the first time we tried to get out it was 11 am. =P

the adventures of kimmy and me...

So... I said I'd write up about Kimmy and my adventures from last week or so. So here goes:

Tues. 12/5 : Last Day of Salsa
Hurrah, we went and danced for the latin dance class final. Sorry for ditching you guys [Steph and Lora]. Though really, did you have to rub in how wonderful the concert was later???  Though I suppose I would probably do the same. ;)  Kim, we should keep taking dance classes and get super uber good and go dance salsa for fun instead of being lazy bums. That way, one hypothetical day, people will be like "Let's go dance?". And we'll be like, "sure" and we'll awe them with our awesome salsa skills. Don't you love my pipe dreams?

Weds: 12/6 : Damien Rice concert at Paramount Theatre in Oakland
Picked up food after work along with a Kimmy. Then we drove up to Oakland in wonderful rush hour traffic. Though the traffic still beat the time we went from Sunnyvale to Fremont in a whole 2 hours since 880 N was apparently closed. Then I got us slightly lost in Oakland and ended up going through this Posey Tube to Alameda. Then I found the corresponding one to get back to the other side.  We ended up finding street parking somewhere and wandered into the theatre to catch the end of The Swell Season set. The theatre was pretty awesome and just about the classiest venue I've been in. It just had awesome acoustics and was clean and done up old art house style. Wasn't sure what to expect from the concert since many of his songs are pretty melancholic/wistful, but he was surprisingly dynamic in concert. It was.. THE BEST CONCERT EXPERIENCE EVER.  That man can really really sing and now I must go to all his concerts whenever he is in the area. He also has the most random anedotes ever. There's just something so incredibly wonderful about sitting and letting the sound wash over you. There was an even mix of songs off his old album and the new album he was promoting. But seriously, damn that man for making his cds seem like an inferior copy of his live performances.

Fri: 12/8 : NSSN at Bill Graham in SF
Went and found Kimmy again though this time she drove. We ended up slogging through slight drizzly rain and crappy Fri night rush hour traffic to San Francisco. Then we began the fun filled circling for parking spots down by Bill Graham. Every lot we went to was full. =(. Eventually, after about half an hr of circling we found this ghetto ghetto lot far away for $5. Then we walked a couple of blocks in the rain to the venue. I managed somehow to kick/step in puddles soaking my foot both ways. I'm just oftly talented like that. We didn't get there until the end of the Raconteurs set and saw part of that then saw Modest Mouse and the Killers. The Killers were definitely the best of the three bands we did see. Surprisingly good live.  It was a pretty fun time all in all despite getting a little lost on the way back to her car...

Man why do we have all these fun adventures...?

so i never post...

Hmm, it's odd I just don't post anymore because a) I'm lazy and I can barely keep doing stuff in real life much less write about the stuff I did, b) I feel like I have nothing to say anymore because of the aforementioned statement, and c) my days are becoming very similar to one another.  But maybe I'll give this another shot to amuse me and probably my very very limited audience.

This week is.. going to be exhausting/is exhausting. Whatever =P.  Maybe I'll just sit around and do nothing this weekend since that sounds about as wonderful as things will get right now. I mean most of it is my fault since who told me to have two concerts + wushu + salsa in one week while trying to cram in running and stuff.  But ehh, do I ever learn?  Not really.  It'll be fun in a crazy exhausting blitz sort of way.  Think I'll be good and try to go dance salsa somewhere next week like I always meant to do but never got my lazy self to.

Google holiday party was pretty fun last weekend with all the peoples i know there, but I think in general, I'd rather be a bum or running around or something. Too much effort expended haha, could go salsa dancing instead ;).

And meh to run today or not since my hip kinda hurts when I rotate it out. How come I always feel somewhat broken?!!

Random list of stuff I either want to keep doing or try: [set up a time and i'll try to show]

  • salsa
  • swing dance
  • wushu [i have gotten ridiculously sloooow and out of shape =(]
  • running [ditto with above]
  • snowboarding [when there's good snow]
  • rock climbing
  • capoeira
  • spinning poi

Somewhat one of the most random lists ever. will do concert recaps after them later and so i'm out now.
